What to Expect

Work Hours

Internship work hours are based on the student’s academic requirements; the department’s needs and the intern’s availability. Interns work with their Site Preceptor to arrange their preferred work schedule with hours between 8 am and 5 pm, Monday – Friday.

Internship Length

Internship assignments can last for a month, single academic term, or up to a full academic year. Site supervisors and interns establish an agreement for the length of the internship. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. 

Earning Academic Credit

Internship opportunities are unpaid, but interns are encouraged to pursue academic credit through their institutions of study.

Dedicated Supervisor

Each intern will have a direct supervisor dedicated to their success through onboarding, training, and mentorship.

Internship Process

    • Review policies and procedures

    • Obtain an ID badge

    • Complete fingerprinting and background check 

Students are selected to participate in the internship without regard to considerations of race, creed, color, national origin, religion, marital status, sexual orientation, or handicap. Applications are considered in the order they are received and are based on staff capacity and the applicant’s areas of interest. Preference is given to students majoring in areas most closely related to the internship site’s programs and services. 

Students selected for an internship must complete all required paperwork and orientation before they can begin their internship. Students will work with their site supervisor to determine a start day.

All Judicial Branch offers of employment are contingent upon passing a thorough background/fingerprint check. Applicants must completely and fully answer any questions regarding felony and misdemeanor convictions including any convictions that have been expunged or set aside. Failure to include criminal history information is grounds for revoking offer of employment. A conviction may not automatically disqualify an applicant.
