Effective January 1, 2022, the Judicial Branch of Arizona, Maricopa County's, Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) went into effect which formalized the Judicial Branch of Arizona, Maricopa County as a separate entity from Maricopa County. The most significant change will be when an employee of the County changes employment to the Judicial Branch or if an employee of the Judicial Branch changes employment to a County entity. Movement between the agencies will be treated as termination from one agency and a New Hire to the receiving agency.
Vacation Time
Vacation balances will be paid out according to the current employer's policy. Vacation balances will not transfer between employers.
Sick Pay
Any sick pay balances will be forfeited when changing employers. Sick pay balances will not transfer between employers.
FMLA and USERRA Eligibility Waiting Periods
In line with being treated as a New Employee with a new employer, FMLA and USERRA eligibility waiting periods will start from the first day of employment with the new agency.
Board Approved Merit Increases
New employees are not required to wait an additional year for Board approved merit increases as long as they continue to meet eligibility requirements.
Current Employer Resignation Tip
When resigning from your current position, let your employer know that you will be transferring to another employer so that there is not a break in service, and they know to transfer your benefits and your payroll record.
Benefits
Benefits will continue without interruption. Benefit programs for the Judicial Branch will still be provided by County. Any HSA or FSA should remain intact.
Educational Reimbursements or Professional License Loans
You will not be required to repay any of the educational reimbursement or licensed professional loan repayments if you move between the County and the Judicial Branch. The move would not be considered a break in service unless you are not employed by either employer for a day or more.
