PHOENIX (October 31, 2023) - Judge Timothy J. Thomason retired on October 31, after serving nine years on the Superior Court bench.

Judge Thomason served five years on the Commercial Court, where he presided over complex, commercial disputes and handled settlement conferences. He also served in the Family Department and, most recently, in the Criminal Department.

“It has been an honor serving the citizens of the State of Arizona,” Judge Thomason said.

Prior to becoming a judge, he was a trial lawyer for 30 years. Judge Thomason was a partner at Streich Lang, now Quarles and Brady, for 17 years, and at Mariscal Weeks, now Dickinson Wright, for 13 years. He was listed on the Super Lawyers Top 50 in Arizona list and is a fellow in the prestigious American College of Trial Lawyers. Judge Thomason was named the Real Estate Litigation Lawyer of the Year in 2013.

Judge Thomason received his bachelor’s degree, summa cum laude, from Creighton University in 1981, and his Juris Doctorate, Order of the Coif, from the University of Iowa in 1984.

“Judge Thomason is a gifted jurist and served in the Family, Criminal and Civil Departments of the Arizona Superior Court with distinction.  His expertise in the handling of complex civil litigation will be missed.  We wish him well in his next endeavor and know that he will continue to serve to cause of justice in Maricopa County,” Presiding Judge Joseph Welty said.
