The Department does not provide paid internship opportunities. If you’re a student at Arizona State University, stipend opportunities are available here.
The internship program starts and ends with the school semester, meaning internships are approximately 4-5 months long. Summer internship opportunities are also available.
Start by contacting your college or university’s Internship Coordinator to understand their specific requirements (e.g., attendance logs, evaluations, learning agreements, etc.). Once you have that information, please share it with the MCJPD Internship & Volunteer Coordinator.
Yes, if you are enrolled in an Arizona college or university, you are welcome to apply.
Yes, interns and volunteers are generally required to be at least 21 years old. However, this requirement may be waived for students with junior or senior standing at the time of their internship.
Internship hours typically range from 16 to 30 hours per week. Interns receiving academic credit should confirm and communicate the number of hours required by their course or program. All other interns are expected to commit to a minimum of 16 hours per week, with the option to work up to 30.
If you are participating through the MCLEAPS program, please note that your internship will require 40 hours per week.
Yes, we understand that our candidates are students, and if applicants can meet the 16 hours minimum, schedule accommodations can be made.
Interns do not accrue formal sick leave, but if you need to miss time due to illness or preplanned time off, you’ll have the opportunity to make up those hours during that semester.
Holiday breaks and academic recesses (e.g., Spring/Fall break, Thanksgiving, Veterans Day, etc.) follow your college or university’s calendar. You are not expected to work on days when your school is officially off.
Yes, applicants may apply for both positions; however, a separate application must be submitted for each role.
Maricopa County Juvenile Probation Fall & Spring interns will have the opportunity to tour various departments across the county. These experiences offer valuable insight into the broader work of Maricopa County and the wide range of services provided to support the community.
