General Information

The Intake, Transfer, and Release (ITR) detention processing facility replaced the Central Intake processing center that was located at the 4th Avenue Jail in downtown Phoenix. The ITR provides for a more efficient intake and booking process and 4 courtrooms. The ITR processes all self-surrender detainees who are complying with a court order to surrender and serve a jail sentence. The ITR also processes all releases from custody from the Maricopa County Jail system. The ITR processes approximately 100,000 bookings and 90,000 releases each year. The ITR has an attached short-term 512-bed facility. Inmates have access to medical and mental health care services and county staff are available to treat individuals while connecting them to community resources. The ITR is also a transportation hub for the coordinated movement of defendants in and out of custody within the Sheriff’s Office system of 5 jails. See www.mcso.org for more information.
