Standard Probation

Most people sentenced to probation are placed on Standard Probation Supervision (SPS). Depending on a person’s risk of reoffending and the type of crime, the Court may also add special conditions or require intensive probation supervision. These conditions can include programs such as Drug Court or services for domestic violence, sex offenses, gang involvement, or white-collar crimes.

How Standard Probation Works:

  • Reporting instructions are provided to the individual
  • Financial responsibility is encouraged through restitution, fines, fees, and reimbursements
  • Individuals are connected to community programs, counseling, and therapy
  • Drug use is prohibited, and compliance is monitored

Sex Offender Program

The Sex Offender Program provides specialized supervision for individuals on probation with sex offender conditions. Using evidence-based practices, the program works to reduce the risk of reoffending, prevent further victimization, and promote the safety and well-being of the community.

How the Sex Offender Program Works:

  • Officers use a research-based Dynamic Containment Model that combines treatment, assessments, and enhanced supervision strategies
  • Individuals learn personal skills to prevent future offenses
  • Probation officers work closely with treatment providers to monitor behavior and identify patterns
  • The program aims to improve community and victim safety while supporting positive change in the individual

Unsupervised Probation

The Unsupervised Probation Unit provides administration over individuals court-ordered to unsupervised probation. Unsupervised Probation Teams monitor compliance of individuals to ensure conditions are satisfied prior to sentence expiration.

How Unsupervised Probation Teams Ensure Compliance:

  • Verify that probation conditions are met through phone, email, and U.S. mail
  • Monitor for any new criminal activity
  • Ensure payment of court-ordered fees, fines, and restitution
  • Refer individuals who do not comply to the Court for further action
