College of Law, Judicial Branch in Maricopa County partner for program on judges

WHAT:  “Beyond the Back of the Ballot: Answering your Questions about Arizona Judges” is designed to help community members understand the ways judges in Maricopa County are selected for the bench and how their performance as a judge is measured during their tenure.  
 
WHO:  The Superior Court of Maricopa County and the Arizona State University Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law. The free event is open to the public. 
 
WHEN:  5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1. 
 
WHERE:  ASU College of Law, 111 E. Taylor Street in Downtown Phoenix. 
 
WHY:  Panelists who are responsible for conducting the merit selection process for Maricopa County Judges and then ensuring these judges remain appropriately accountable to the public through the Judicial Performance Review, the Judicial Ethics Advisory Committee, the appellate process, and retention elections will offer insight into a world of information available on Arizona’s judges.  
Learn why Arizona adopted the current system, and celebrate how this system promotes both democracy and an independent judiciary often lauded as an example for other court systems.
